What is an asset valuation?

An asset valuation is a formal, documented assessment of the market or replacement value of physical business assets, such as plant and machinery, metalworking equipment, and surplus stock. A professional valuation gives you an accurate, defensible figure to base decisions on, whether you are arranging insurance cover, securing finance, or disposing of assets through a formal insolvency process.

Many of our valuations are led by Richard Temple, MRICS, a Chartered Machinery Valuation Surveyor and Valuer registered with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 2011. Richard inspects assets on site and prepares each valuation report in line with recognised professional standards, drawing on extensive experience across industrial and commercial sectors.

Please note that our valuation service is not designed for one-off random asset assessments. We typically conduct our appraisals for financial and insurance purposes. Get in touch today if you need your assets valued for these reasons.

What valuation types do we provide?

Every valuation is prepared on the basis most appropriate to its purpose. Our chartered valuer can provide reports on any of the following bases:

  • Market value The estimated amount the asset would achieve in an arm's-length transaction on the open market. Typically used for business sales, mergers, and lending decisions.
  • In-situ value The value of the asset as installed and operational within the business. Often used for insurance and going-concern valuations where the cost of removal and reinstallation is a factor.
  • Fair value The price that would be received in an orderly transaction between market participants at the valuation date. Used for financial reporting and business acquisitions.
  • Reinstatement cost The cost of replacing an asset with a new equivalent. Used for insurance purposes to ensure adequate cover is in place.
  • Indemnity value The current replacement cost of an asset less depreciation. Used for insurance claims where the settlement is based on the asset's value at the time of loss rather than new-for-old replacement.

How does the asset valuation process work?

Our chartered valuers conduct each appraisal through an on-site inspection, examining assets individually, recording their condition and specifications, and photographing each item. The resulting valuation report sets out each asset, the valuation basis, and the assessed value, providing a clear, documented record you can share with insurers, lenders, or advisers.
