What is a factory closure asset disposal?

When a factory or industrial site closes, everything on the floor needs to go. Plant and machinery, metalworking equipment, woodworking machinery, commercial vehicles, office equipment, and retail stock all need to be valued, sold, and cleared before the site can be handed back.

BTG Eddisons Asset Sales manages the complete process. We have handled factory closures across manufacturing, engineering, food production, and industrial sectors throughout the UK, taking on everything from the initial valuation through to the physical clearance and site handback.

Whether the closure is planned well in advance or needs to move quickly, we structure the disposal around your lease expiry, landlord requirements, or handover deadline.

What does a factory closure disposal deliver?

  • Maximum value from your assets – Assets marketed to a network of more than 26,000 registered buyers across manufacturing, engineering, and industrial sectors achieve stronger prices than an informal or restricted disposal.
  • A single point of contact – Valuation, sale, buyer collection, and site clearance are handled under one instruction. You do not need to coordinate multiple contractors while managing the closure.
  • Deadline certainty – The disposal programme is planned around your lease expiry, handback date, or other deadline from the point of instruction.
  • The right method for each asset – High-value or specialist machines can be sold by tender or negotiated sale to maximise return. Volume items and general equipment go through weekly online auctions. On most sites we use a combination of all three.
  • Solutions for everything on site – Assets that do not sell are not left behind. We find suitable solutions for any remaining items so the site is handed back empty.
  • Full-scope clearance where needed – For sites requiring more than a standard asset disposal, our managed site clearance and decommissioning service covers the full scope, including coordination of removal, demolition, and documentation disposal.

How does the factory closure process work?

The process begins with a call or site visit. A director will discuss your assets, your timeline, and what you need to achieve, then give you a realistic picture of the disposal process and what the assets are likely to return.

If you are happy to proceed, a chartered machinery valuation surveyor carries out an on-site inspection and values your asset on the appropriate basis. This gives you a credible guide price and informs the sale-method recommendation.

Assets are then photographed, lotted, and marketed to our network of more than 26,000 registered buyers. Online auctions run weekly, so assets can typically be listed within a few weeks of instruction. Buyers attend viewings, bid online, and collect directly from site post-sale.

For sites requiring a more comprehensive approach, our managed site clearance and decommissioning service goes further, coordinating the physical removal of retained assets, demolition, and the secure disposal of sensitive documentation.
