Specialist optometry equipment heads to auction following manufacturer's liquidation

A retinal camera manufacturer based at Langthwaite Business Park in South Kirby, Pontefract, has gone into liquidation, with our Leeds team being instructed to sell its assets, which include specialist electronics and optometry equipment used in the production of medical imaging devices.

A niche lot requires specialist knowledge

Retinal cameras are a small, technical corner of medical device manufacturing, and the machinery behind them reflects that.

Precision optics, calibration rigs and bespoke electronics testing equipment require specialist knowledge and market experience, in a way that general engineering equipment does not.

There is no local machine shop that might want a spare lathe. Instead, this kind of equipment tends to move sideways within the sector, from one optical or medical device manufacturer straight into the hands of another, still building or testing the same kind of technology.

A pattern that extends beyond one liquidation

Precision-built equipment like this rarely sits idle for long. The same pattern shows up whenever a business with a narrow technical specialism closes: the kit itself still has plenty of working life left and finding it a fast route back into the sector is a priority.

Regional Director Richard Temple explains: “Equipment like this has plenty of life left in it. Our job is making sure it goes straight to someone in the sector who can put it back to work, rather than treating it as generic surplus.”
