Project
A national supermarket chain undertook a groupwide upgrade of its waste management systems, replacing traditional vertical compactors with modern rotary bag compactors. With a large number of redundant machines needing to be removed responsibly, the client required a sustainable disposal route that aligned with their environmental objectives.
Eddisons was appointed to manage the remarketing and reuse of the outgoing equipment, ensuring minimal waste and maximum asset recovery.
Approach
To protect asset value and ensure the best return for the client, Eddisons implemented a phased disposal strategy over a 12-month period. Rather than releasing all redundant compactors simultaneously, we scheduled multiple auction events throughout the year. This avoided oversupply in the market, encouraged stronger bidding activity and allowed interest to build organically over time.
The staggered release also created ongoing opportunities for buyers who were unsuccessful in earlier rounds, increasing market engagement and broadening the pool of potential purchasers. Throughout the process, we targeted both domestic and international buyers, using our established marketing channels to reach operators seeking reliable machinery at accessible price points.
Results
The phased approach delivered strong and consistent sales, attracting interest from independent UK retailers through to overseas recycling and waste-processing businesses. Every unit was successfully sold at competitive market values, with the equipment placed back into active operational use.
By extending the life of all redundant compactors, the project supported the client’s sustainability commitments, diverted machinery from landfill and demonstrated the practical value of circular economy principles. The outcome provided clear commercial benefit for the supermarket chain while ensuring a responsible and environmentally considerate disposal route.
